One of the things that Viridian residents love most about our community is their re-discovered active lifestyle. Walk-able streets and winding sidewalks make it possible for residents to stroll and bike around, as well as socialize and engage with their neighbors.
Viridian is also a dream come true for David DeVries, an agent at the RE/MAX Pinnacle Group and, as of the last few years, a happy Viridian resident. We chatted with him about his profession, his lifestyle, how he chose Viridian among many other communities in the DFW area to build his home, and how he likes his new life.
V: Tell us a little about your business. How long have you been a Realtor in DFW? What kinds of clients do you help?
DDV: I've been a Realtor in the DFW area since 1983 and am a member of the RE/MAX Hall of Fame. I moved here from the Chicago area in 1982 and didn't know a soul. So, I started walking the streets and knocking doors looking for business. The majority of my business now comes from repeat clients and their friends. I strive to treat people the way I want to be treated.
V: What makes Viridian so special that you chose it for your home?
DDV: There is so much about Viridian that I love. First; I've been a runner all of my adult life, for over 35 years. I usually run more than a thousand miles a year. Now, I get to run around the lake and through the woods at River Legacy every day. That's a dream. Second; we used to live in a typical suburban neighborhood where everyone waved as they drove by before pulling into their garage, never to be seen again. At Viridian, it seems like everyone is walking their dogs, riding their bikes or just taking a stroll. And because the houses aren't so far from each other, it's easy to see your neighbors and have a conversation with them. Third; there's a real sense of community at Viridian. We've had several social events and parties at our home and regularly entertain fifty to sixty people. Fourth; Lake Club is awesome! Our grandchildren like to visit and head straight to the pools. It's building lasting memories for all. Lastly, we can't wait for the restaurants and shopping to come. We look forward to walking to dinner and meeting our friends.
V: What kind of homework did you do / should a person do when looking for a new home?
DDV: We watched Viridian for some time as they were designing and developing the neighborhood. We like that it's designed around pedestrians, not cars! We also like that there's a home for whatever stage of life you're in. Starter, expanding, empty nesters, townhomes, etc. We also like all of the green space and common areas. And the location can't be beat! 10 minutes to DFW Airport. Half an hour to Dallas and Fort Worth. Half an hour to Plano/Frisco. 15 minutes to Grapevine and Southlake. 10 minutes to Cowboys and Rangers games. Unbelievable!
V: What were you searching for when looking for a new home? Give us the top 5 factors.
DDV: We were looking to downsize. Our children were grown and we no longer wanted our two-story house with a pool and large yard. However, we didn't want to step down in quality. So, our top five factors were; single story, high quality, large rooms, open floor plan, smaller yard, and a three-car garage. (I know, that's six).
V: Tell us, what do you enjoy most about Viridian's lifestyle?
DDV: We enjoy the sense of community and active lifestyle. We like to walk our dogs every day and it's not unusual to run into several different neighbors and enjoy lively conversation and a beer or two.
V: Thank you David for sharing a bit of your life in Viridian. We're very happy you're enjoying it this much. See you on your next run!
