By the water is where I like to escape from the heat and frenzy of summer. So I headed poolside and lounged under one of the cabanas to write this month’s blog. There is a beautiful view of Lake Viridian from the club house pool, and from the lake, a breeze is usually present to keep pool dwellers comfortable in their cushioned lounge chairs. Truly an oasis away from the office.
In the evening, Stephen and I take our dog to the newly sanded beach by Lake Viridian. As the sunsets, the sand feels like cool sugar between our toes as we walk along the edge of the lake. Blitz being the joyful Labrador she is, ventures into the water with tail wagging, hoping along with the crest of the waves and tries to bite the resulting splashing water. As we start to lose the sunlight, we turn around and retrace our steps in the sand. The bright white of the lawn chairs and sand are the last to lose their illumination. On our walk, we watch as neighbors gather under the bright string lights of the volleyball court to play late into the summer evening. I swear if I had a Painkiller cocktail in hand, I’d would likely mistaken this place for one of our beloved beaches in the British Virgin Islands. Feeling reminiscent, I had added a hammock to my Amazon wish list in hopes that Stephen would get it for me for my birthday this month. To my delight, he did! It is now situated on our balcony overlooking the nature preserve.
Can’t wait to find time to read and relax, but alas each weekend has been packed with fun things to do! Especially at the Viridian Sailing Center. For example, one Saturday this month, the ladies of Viridian gathered early morning at the Viridian Sailing Center for Ladies Stand Up Paddle Boarding. We worked up an appetite paddling up wind to the island on Lake Viridian and so we had brunch at the nearby Texas Star Golf Course. The food was phenomenal and the view of the golf course from the cafe was lovely. With Potluck and Portsmouth Sunday evening and Wednesday Night Racing, our evenings have been filled with eating watermelon, sharing beers and arguing about who had the right of way with friends and members of the Viridian Sailing Advisory Board.
Stephen and I took the plunge in June. In celebration of our 2nd wedding year anniversary, we are going to go sailing together! We are looking for to the Fire Cracker Regatta on July 1st.
